NEW BEGINNINGS

#1 Daughter and I talked over New Year's Resolutions yesterday.  "Mom, have you made any resolutions?"  In all honesty I had not even thought about making any resolutions.  I laughed and told her resolutions are doomed for failure before I pick up the pen.  We both spoke of resolutions which we stuck to for some period of time--and though a bit of a downer to not last the year--there were good things that came from them.  And then there were a few I kept the entire year-such a great feeling of accomplishment!

Last night's celebration was for some a celebration of a year filled with success and happiness--for others it was a celebration of new beginnings.  Relief of turning the calendar page and ending a less than productive or happy year and hope for a better year to come was the theme for the night.  As long as there is a glimmer of hope for a brighter tomorrow, bearing the calamity of today seems possible.

Turning that calendar page signifies the opportunity to start again--a new beginning---second chance.  We turn the page and close out what had not lived up to our expectations and start again with a clean slate with the renewed hope of a better outcome.

I am thankful for second chances---do overs---try agains.  We serve a God who allows us Second Chances over and over.  A God who realizes we are human---not perfect---prone to mistakes---tempted by sin---AND He gives us the opportunity to start anew.  Over and over when we fail--when we falter--when we lose our way---He allows us to begin again.

He gives us tomorrow---another day on the calendar and a clean slate.  All we have to do is ask Him--and we are allowed to start over--begin again- seeking the goal of drawing neigh unto Him.

NEW YEAR BLESSINGS, DEAR FRIENDS!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
 2 Corinthians 5:17

  1. Indeed Lulu, God gave us all a second chance, a New Beginning as it were, when He sent us Jesus to die for us.

As for resolutions; I have stopped making any. So my family made me a list of resolutions instead. "Stop throwing dead frogs over the fence into the neighbour's garden. Stop hiding the remote control in the fridge. Take the goldfish for a walk every now and then. Loose weight." I've tried hard with the last resolution; including weighing myself wearing nothing on to get accurate readings. I don't think the nurses at the hospital appreciate this when I go for a check up.

    Speaking of hospitals ...

A very rich woman whilst in hospital in intensive care dies for a few seconds. She sees herself leave her body in a near death experience and meets God in Heaven. “Is that it?” she asks Him, “Am I dead?”

“No,” says God, “you will live for many more years yet! I will give you a second chance!”

She recovers in hospital and is well again. She is so cheerful that she decides to improve herself. She gets plastic surgery done on her face, has liposuction and removes un-wanted fat from several places, gets her hair re-styled and dyed a different colour, gets a new set of stylish clothes and looks terrific once again.

A few days later whilst crossing the road she is hit by a bus and killed instantly.

When she meets God she complains, “I thought you said I’ll live for many years yet!”

He replies, “Sorry, I didn’t recognize you after the make-over!”

Keep smiling Lulu. Happy New Year to you and your family. God bless.

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
