SO THIRSTY!

 We finally had a decent rain night before last (remember I write this days before publishing it).  Texas has had a nice summer - FOR TEXAS.  The days over triple digit temperatures have been much less so far this year than the last two years.  BUT we have had a VERY dry summer--that is to be expected.  When we finally have a break in the desert like conditions, I never cease to be amazed at the results.  I literally can see the plants, trees, and grasses green and perk up before my very eyes.  If they could talk I would imagine a long drawn out AHHHHHHHH!    The plant kingdom NEEDS water to sustain life.

I finished another book yesterday Leaving Blythe River (Really good book, but no reviews on the weekdays.  This book is not just one, but two of my favorite subjects----adventures and coming of age---WIN WIN!  Very good book.  Without telling the entire story someone gets lost in the wilderness and his son goes on a mission to find him after the Rangers gave up.  The days of possibly surviving have dwindled due to several factors (do not want to give the story away), but lack of water was a contributing factor.  It was amazing to see how wetting the inside of the victim's mouth eventually led to survival.  Read the book---not going to spoil the story.

OH---SAME SUBJECT APPEARING IN QUICK SUCCESSION----BLOG THEME!

Often in The Word spiritual water is addressed.  One of my favorite Bible verses deals with the deer panting for water.  Water is used as a symbol for God, the Holy Spirit and spiritual refreshment.  As man and all living things can not live without water, we also need God to satisfy our spiritual thirst.  AND--just as those plants and the man in the book quickly responded to drinking down the water, so our soul quickly responds to any input of God.  Be it reading your Bible, praying, praising, singing--any form of ingesting God is rewarded with a renewing and reenergizing.  God our creator---knows our needs and waits for us to turn to Him for spiritual refreshment.  He quickly and faithfully fills our tanks--renews our reserve and strengthens us in our weakness.  He quenches our thirst---with the only thing which will work---God Himself.

"But whoever drinks of the water

that I will give him

shall never thirst;

but the water

that I will give him

will become in him

a well of water

springing up to eternal life."

John 4:14

  1. That is one of my favorite verses, too, Lulu, as you probably surmised by one of my recent posts. I'm so happy that y'all got that much-needed rain, and you could see immediately how the plants responded. It has been a dryer than normal summer in GA, too. Our moss so loves it when we do get that rain.
    Blessings!

  2. Love this post. I find when I don’t read God’s word or pray or dwell on his spirit, my soul gets dry. Then whatever proceeds out of my mouth and whatever I think is negative. But how He refreshes my soul when I turn back to Him!

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
