CONSEQUENCES OF BADGERING

The littlest grands learned at an early age the fine art of badgering.  It works every time---well almost every time.  I am spineless when it comes to giving them almost everything they ask for.  The conversation usually goes something like this:

H-  Can I have an ice cream sandwich?
Lulu--You have already had 3 treats since you arrived.
H- But I just want an ice cream sandwich and that will be my last treat.
Lulu--It will make your tummy hurt if you eat too many treats.
H- But I am still hungry.
Lulu--Mommie will not be happy if I take you home with a tummy ache because you had too much sugar.
H-I am really really hungry!
Lulu--H, I said No
H-But why not
Lulu--I am not telling you again--no more treats.
H-I haven't had an ice cream sandwich today and I really like them
Lulu--SIGH----OK

The baby even has his own form of badgering.  It involves pointing at what he wants---whining---saying "Dat"---whining more---eventually crying if you do not give him what he has his eye on.  WHO could resist this sweet face?

I am weak when it comes to denying any of my grandchildren.  Sometimes--such as too many treats--it really is not for their best--but I give in and hand them what they are badgering me for knowing it has consequences.

There have been times in my life that I badgered God---day after day---the same prayer--begging-pleading---non-stop --requests for what I think is best.  There have been times---my prayers were eventually answered and the consequences were huge.  I have always heard "Be careful what you pray for."  I fail to take his silence--even His No's as answers in my best interest--but instead continue to bombard Heaven with the same requests that I think are in my best interest.

I am learning---it's about time---I now ask God---"If this is not in your will for me, please take the desire from my heart.".    When I step down from my throne---and submit to His plan---it is always for my best--"Father truly knows best!"

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope."
Jeremiah 29:11
