It is a sure sign of age that I can sing all the words to this lovely tune. Written over a hundred years ago, they just do not make tunes like this anymore. The message was simple--
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Let me hear you whisper
That you love me too
I'm in love with you
Let me hear you whisper
That you love me too
Keep the love light glowing
In your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
In your eyes so true
Let me call you sweetheart
I'm in love with you
Today is Valentine's Day--a day many single people dread and sometimes decide to ignore. It goes back to my philosophy about those kind of holidays---it is a day--24 hours--it will pass quickly.
As for me, I mark the day by sending each of the grands a Valentine's day remembrance. I am not too certain how impressed they are--after all it is a day of celebrating with parties at school. Lots of sugar--most smart teachers allow that exchange just before they send those darlings back home.
Here is the thing about it---the lyrics point out the truth of it all. Many of us do not keep the love light glowing in our earthly love. During the years in history when light was provided by lanterns, the lanterns had to be tended to keep the light glowing. The chimneys had to be cleaned, the fuel had to be replenished, and the wicks had to be trimmed. Without this daily maintenance, the light would grow dimmer and dimmer--eventually it would go out. BUT a well maintained lantern gave off a consistent warm glow. It took work, time, and consistency to keep the light bright.
SO it goes with love, any love---even our love for the Father. It takes consistent pursuit of that love to keep the light glowing. Think this over today and maybe write a Valentine in your journal to The Father. Our one true love--for always.
I will reflect upon that one true love only the Father can give us, Lulu. And by the way, I can remember both my grandmother and mother singing that song, so I know it as well as you do. Yep! Showing our age! :)
