We all assume the shepherds brought their herd with them the night they visited The New Born King. It seems to make perfect sense that they did. The entire purpose of the shepherds staying overnight in the fields with their charges was for their protection. Sheep have almost no self protection features. Oh, I have been backed into a corner by a contrary ram, but for the most part, they are a prime target for predators and dangers since they have so little capacity to protect themselves. SO---I cannot see the shepherds leaving their sheep in the field, but instead perhaps bringing them along. Of course, there is also the possibility some shepherds were left behind with their charges. I cannot see that flying since they all saw the wonder of the Heavenly Host---surely no one wanted to miss seeing the Baby? Having raised sheep, I know how slow that herd would have moved. You need to move sheep slowly, or they might panic and head for the hills. The shepherds would have had to place someone on all sides of the herd, and a slow walk with plenty of stopping and eating would have ensured. BUT, they felt such a pressing need to see this Baby for themselves that they chanced the perils for a first hand view. What a Legacy that would be to have seen that sight for yourself. To have heard that Angel choir announcing the "Good News" --to have seen that Blessed Baby with your own eyes.
So it is with God, He places a hedge of protection around His sheep. He tends His flock. He supplies their needs. He watches over them in the dark of the deep of night. In the deepest darkest nights of our journey here on this terrestrial ball, He is constantly watching over us. AND, He wants us to see--to experience the wonder of His presence. What a Good Shepherd---who cares for each and every one of His sheep. No one is left behind.
"The Lord is my shepherd,
I shall not want"
Psalm 23:1
Another heartfelt reflection here today, Lulu. I know I wouldn't want to miss out on seeing that Baby, either. Blessings!

I had to hunt for your blog. It’s not where it usually is, but that’s due to my ignorant self. 🤣 I love this. God has his hands full trying to herd me. But I’m trying to listen to his voice more . I’m just thankful He loves me and knows what’s best for me is I just listen to His voice.
