A PAT DOWN!

An anonymous blog commenter recently gave me an ear full about the comments on the blog and on Facebook after most of my posts.  They are almost always positive.  Perhaps due to the fact that most people do not read words they do not agree with.  The comment also talked about our "Mutual Admiration Society".  Well now-first of all--thank you very much for sticking this song in my head for days now!

A flash back to my childhood--it is a catchy song and has a good beat--though it might be difficult to dance to. (Showing my age--quote from "American Bandstand")

Fodder for my writing!!!

Yes, it is true, we tend to encourage one another in the blogging world.  In fact, most of the comments are encouraging, again, perhaps due to the fact that those who enjoy my musing read the blog.  When I began thinking it over, I realized I only leave positive comments on other blogs, unless I disagree, and then I use the power of the mouse to pass on to the next one.

What might I ask is wrong with encouraging one another---admiring the work of others---giving a verbal pat on the back for a job well done?  While tutoring and mentoring, while Luluing with the grands, while being a friend, while being a mother, well in all aspects of life, encouragement has always been the most effective tool for spurring others on.  I willingly admit, I probably would have stopped writing LONG ago, except for the pats on the back.  THANK YOU for all who have encouraged me!

As I thought this over, I realized it is VERY Biblical to encourage one another!

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
I Thessalonians 5:11

I found pages of scripture in The Word--Old and New Testaments "encouraging us to encourage one another".

So THAT is all I need---and YES, we are a Mutual Admiration Society--THANK THE GOOD LORD!

  1. Welllllllllll.............I try to be positive as well. Life is too short to want to argue or cause disagreements, sometimes though, it is hard not to voice ones opinion, smiles. Have a lovely Monday, Lulu. Blessings

  2. Of course we're a mutual admiration society. I admire myself in the mirror every day. And the guy there winks back at me in admiration.

Oh Lord it's hard to be humble; when I'm perfect in every way!

(Do you know who sang this song, Lulu?).

    God bless you always.

  3. It's not til you read through a few blogs that are filled with snarky, unpleasant comments that you begin to fully realize how blessed we are to run in circles where it's all about building each other up and encouraging each other. We all bring something of value to the table, and it means so much when someone recognizes that we've offered something of substance or interest.

    And tells us so.

I'm grateful you're in my life, Lulu. You are one of those faithful friends. I thank God for you today!

  4. Hi Lulu! I have thought about that before, and I like your conclusion. Of course we need to support and encourage, it's our mandate from the Lord. We are His gift to each other! Like Linda said, there are many other places that don't understand that, and think it's perfectly fine to shame and be rude.

If I read something I really don't agree with, I also just move on. That doesn't happen much, I have to admit. As long as we all agree that God is in charge, I can usually find something to relate to. I thank God for my encouragers, and include you front and center in that. I am so glad that we know each other through our blogs. He has blessed us, knowing that we will reflect His love to each other. What a joy it is!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

  5. I try not to leave hateful or discouraging comments too. They are "only words" but words can "kill" a person's spirit. That is not being God-like and displeases Him. Good post Lulu. I mean that. ~:)

  6. The dark side of social media--people spewing vitriol while hiding behind their keyboards and fictitious avatars. Loralu, I know you know this, but anonymous comments say WAY, WAY more about the person leaving them, than they do about anything else. Wise people engage in conversations; fools prefer drive-by verbal muggings. The unwell soul who just wants to rant, attack, belittle, etc., will almost always choose this dysfunctional "unsigned graffiti" approach. I think a good rule is to delete every unsigned comment. Why give cowards a platform?

    1. I was raised with two brothers and MANY male cousins, Len. I have spent my life being courageous. My personal choice is to let those words stay---and pray for those who hate and despise me. Camille and I both laughed--perhaps I am becoming famous---I HAVE A TROLL!!! Laughter is always better than anger--and I choose laughter!
      Thank you for you defense!
      Blessings, Friend!

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
