SUMMER SESSION #7- IN EVERY CRACK AND CREVICE

My family is spending the week at the Texas beach.  There is something so magnetic about beaches.  The soft lullaby of the waves rhythmically rolling in, the gentle Gulf breezes, the warmth of the sun, and the soft cushion of the sand carpeted shore all speak to my soul.  I must admit, my beach experience has morphed over the years into a desire to enjoy all of this with an umbrella over my head.  The shade and sunscreen have become my best friends while spending time with the family on the Texas Gulf border.

One of my favorite activities while at the beach is a long walk early in the morning or late in the evening.  I find myself unaware of how far I have walked as I gaze off into the horizon.  Water, water everywhere---and then there are the miles of sand.

We will all help the children build a sand castle - perhaps more than once.  Someone will want to be buried in the sand--with only a face sticking out --we will chase crabs down the sandy shore--we will fly kites and perhaps play a game or two on that soft sand.  By the end of the week, my feet will have new skin after being "sanded" down while playing at the shore.

The thing about sand is it has magical powers.  It adheres to every square inch of skin.  There is NO getting away from it.  We bring it back to the beach house with us and it soon fills every crack and crevice.  You cannot get away from it--the floors are covered, the furniture is covered, the bathroom floor and shower are our indoor beach, and even the bed is not immune.  You have to shake out the sheets, brush off your feet and legs and pray you do not spend the night tossing and turning with sand scratching while you try to sleep.

AH--the beach--even in the midst of the beauty--there is the constant reminder of the sand.  God's wonderful creation  can be good or bad--depending upon how you choose to view it.  You can fuss and gripe or you can grin and live with the bad amongst the good.  Where do you tend to fall?

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
    the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
    and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every living thing
    and the breath of all mankind."
