FLIP FLOP

We have a saying here in Louisiana, "If you don't like the weather here in Louisiana, wait five minutes.

As I was exploring this saying, I discovered it is actually a quote from Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) and it was about the weather in New England.  I thought it was cold up there all winter!  We can change from hot to cold as quickly as you can turn the faucet handles here in Louisiana.  Yesterday (this was a week ago) it was in the 70's and we had a freeze last night with highs today in the lower 50's.  When you live this close to the Gulf Breeze, the weather is a moving target from day to day (sometimes even within a few hours).  Thankfully we are not subjected to much of the icy variety, but we do get our fair share of freezing temperatures.  We proved we are not capable of handling frozen participation on the ground last year when we were iced in for a week.  The weather can change faster here in the Deep South, than a woman can change her mind over what to wear.  Speaking of clothing, we have to keep all seasons of clothing available at all times since we never know if the day will hold a heat wave or a deep freeze.  Be prepared is our motto.  We lack consistency when it comes to the weather.  The only thing that is consistent about it is it will change.

This caused me to consider how many of us lack consistency when it comes to our claim of being Believers.  NOW, that should stop you in your tracks and get the wheels turning.  If you see me today, will you think I am a Christ follower walking in obedience?  Could you see me the next day or even a few hours later, and wonder how I became so immersed into the world?  Do I flip and flop like a fish on the pier out of the water when it comes to living the Christian life?  Do I blow hot and cold at a moment's notice, depending upon the circumstance?  Do I look like a bipolar Follower, who has a difficult time deciding on the direction I am headed?  Words to ponder for us all, Friends.  Words to ponder.

"Do not love the world or the things in the world.

If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

For all that is in the world-

the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes

and pride in possessions -

is not from the Father

but is from the world."

I John 2:15-16

  1. Especially after the two weeks I've just endured, may no one ever take me for a flip flopper when it comes to following Jesus.
    Blessings, Lulu!
(Yes, we have the same saying about our weather here!)

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
