DAY 10- SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT- PEACE--AT WHAT COST?

The light begins to grow brighter with the lighting of the second candle of advent-Peace.  I immediately thought of the song, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."  One would think we all would desire to live in peace.  IF ONLY!  HERE is the truth about peace----we want peace--but NOT at all cost.  We want peace on our terms.  I think of the great peace treaties signed in my lifetime.  Most of them had concessions given by one party or perhaps both.  The peace that comes from the end of wars---certainly has a huge cost for the losing side.  Even those peace time peace treaties required concessions by one side or both.  We have to give up certain rights, territories, resources, and on and on in order to enter into a lull of peace---the absence of struggle.  As long as man has feet of clay---peace is tentative and temporary at best.  BUT GOD---there is a peace that passes all understanding--which comes with Christ.  In Him--we can enjoy the blessing of living in peace.  The Word tells us---there is only peace from God---nothing else.  As we approach the midpoint this week of Advent---may we pray for peace for all of God's peoples and remember the path that leads us to a life of peace.  A peace that came long ago--and lives with us eternally.

"Peace I leave with you;

my peace I give you.

I do not give to you as the world gives.

Do not let your hearts be troubled

and do not be afraid."

John 14:27

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
