FINALLY--THE SHELTER

WHERE I VOLUNTEER

HAD THIS ARTICLE IN THEIR

JANUARY NEWSLETTER

THANK YOU FOR GIVING LAUREN SECURITY AND HOPE
There are many causes of homelessness, ranging from job loss to addiction. But in Lauren’s case, it was concern for her former daughter-in-law. “She was selling drugs out of the house,” Lauren explains. “Instead of turning her in to the police, I turned her in to my pastor...but then she forcibly turned me out into the street. It was horrifying.” But your gifts to UGM-TC gave Lauren a safe place to live. “I know that God has me here for a purpose. I’m so very thankful to the Mission for all that they’ve done for me,” she says. “It’s been a remarkable journey because God has blessed me with so many friendships. This place helped lead me to my church that I go to all the time now and I’m very happy.” As she goes about her day, Lauren shares that happiness with others at the Mission. “I try to bring a smile to people who haven’t necessarily had that in their lives.” Lauren looks forward to being one of the first residents of the new Scott Walker Women and Families Service Building. Beyond that, she anticipates getting her own apartment and cooking for herself again. Through her ordeal, Lauren has learned one important lesson:“You should never think your life is secure. Things can change in the blink of an eye. But God does things in miraculous ways and this is one of His treasures, here in Fort Worth!”

  1. First of all, thank you for volunteering at the Shelter. I'm sure it helps many in need.

Now I'm confused, yet again, with your posts. Why do you need a YMCA? In the UK it means Young Men's Christian Association. Is it the same where you are? Years ago there was a group called the Village People and they sang about the YMCA.

    God bless you and yours.

    1. Yes--it is the same here, Victor. They are primarily in the business of providing anything to do with physical fitness---gyms, classes, pools, leagues for sports, etc. It has become a non-gender specific facility. We also have YWCA's, but they primarily minister to women in need.

Thankfully, I am not required to sing the song upon entry!

      Blessings!

  2. Victor--giggling....the "Y" here is nice and even has a indoor pool, but very expensive--it would of cost us (for a family of 3)nearly $200 a month, now, I have to ask you, who has that kind of money? Not us.

Shaking my head over Lauren's situation--it just breaks my heart...the drug epidemic is worse than guns, just saying... keeping her in prayer....many Saturday Blessings to you...

and I am a Downton fan as well...although, not very happy with Great Britain right now (sorry Victor) and the nonsense about the Parliament going to take a vote about Trump whether or not to revoke his passport because of his thoughts about muslims...just a sad state of affairs...

    1. The Y here is not expensive $40 for a single membership. They have lots of support in the community since they are non profit And very stiff competition in the physical fitness/ gym arena. There are lots of heart breaking stories at the shelter! Will Victor address the issue is my question of the day??
      Blessings, Friend!

    2. What issue is that, Lulu? About the YMCA?

There was a YMCA near where I worked in London. Good place to meet girls.

      God bless.

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
