A TIME FOR EVERYTHING

The birds are giving me great enjoyment this winter (again).  From their early morning songs while I am reading in bed (another post for another day), to their final rush to find a spot for the night, they are giving me great delight.  Winter and the Deep South's  occasional brush with frigid temperatures brings a little visitor that delights me.  The finches are back in town!

I have thistle socks in several places in my yard.  I am rewarded for my efforts by having scores of finches who come to dine at Lulu's table.  Unlike the humming  birds of summer, they are content to sit at the table and share the bounty.  One of the socks is right outside the window behind my kitchen sink.  They are not alarmed by me being on the other side of the magic barrier and I am able to wash dishes and enjoy their coming and going.

Do you remember the movie "Field of Dreams"?  It is famous for the line "If you build it they will come."  So it goes with the birds of winter.  If you feed them, they will come.  It does require some preparation, some effort keeping those feeders full, and some of the feeders require clean up on aisle one at the end of the meal.  It is so worth the effort.  They entertain and amaze me.  One thing I have to keep in mind, they are going to leave.  This is their winter home and when Spring begins to show its head again, they fly away.  It is always sad to see them go, but I am thankful for their making this their temporary home.

Can you see where I am going?  The relationships we have with others can be exactly like this.  I think of our children---SO worth the effort, but they grow up and leave and cleave as it was meant to be.  Friends come in and out of our lives depending upon the season also.  There is a time --read "Ecclesiastes".  We have loved ones who are with us, but for a season and then they go on to their new home.  It is a God ordained cycle ~a cycle of love.  So thankful for those who have come into and sometimes left my world.  At the end of the day, it is always worth the effort.

"There is an appointed time for everything.

And there is a time for every matter under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

  1. Amen, Lulu! There is, indeed, a time and a place for everything. I so enjoy watching the birds come and go in our yard, too.
    Blessings!

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
