STOP, LOOK & LISTEN

Only on week two (we are slow--it takes us two weeks for a one week lesson) of the new study and I am gleaming truths and treasures already.

The author began the week with obedience and we ended it with methods of seeking God.  Here is my BIG takeaway --after she wrote on the need to seek God --not His will--she explained when we find Him--His Will  will follow.  As I mulled this over, it dawned upon me we put WAY too much pressure on ourselves when it comes to seeking God.  Our God is a mighty God!  He will reveal Himself to us--even when we are sitting on our backside eating chips on the couch.  He WILL cut through the haze of the world we surround ourselves with and show Himself.  His irresistible pull will draw us--and the rest will follow.  I told one of my friends last night in group, think of your first love and how you could not get enough of him.  You wanted to be with him, you wanted to know all about him, you sought him out at every possible moment.  Once we realize the depth of God's love for us---those same sweet feelings follow.

We get all caught up in checking the boxes, Read my Bible, Prayed all needed prayers, Attended Worship, Attended Small Group, Participated in Ministry--on and on we have our daily list of what we need to do to seek God.  God is right there by us--even in our silly rituals of right living.  What we need to do is

God is revealing Himself to us in all the mundane of the day, in all the wonders of nature, in literally every part of every day---HE IS THERE!  Stop putting pressure on yourself to complete your checklist and instead "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus".  That great old hymn says it so well.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace

I am NOT telling you to not read The Word, not pray, not attend worship, etc.  I am telling you to stop pressuring yourself and trust that God is revealing Himself.  He is a powerful God and He will not be ignored.  Stop, look and listen--and See AND KNOW Him.

He is the radiance of the glory of God

and the exact imprint of his nature,

and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

  1. God will break through and come alongside us if we simply relax and expect Him to be present in all things. Great reflection, Lulu!
    Blessings!

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
