MY LIFE AS A PROSTITUTE

Anne Vos Kamp reminded us this weekend---we have all been practicing prostitutes---she convincingly wove her explanation as we all sat in denial of such a shocking declaration.  ME---a prostitute---NEVER!

One of the definitions of prostitution is the use of the body for gain--something is expected in return for the body's use by another.  Here starts the weaving---the church is the body and we are part of the church.

3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Romans 12:3-5

Yes--we all agree---according to The Word--we are ONE BODY---in Christ--there it is---irrefutable evidence--in His Word--I and You---WE are the body.  HOW then did we become prostitutes?  We---as a part of the body--expect something in return for our part in being "The Body".  WAIT---what did I say----I expect God to "Pay or reward" me in fame, fortune, good health, long life, happiness, prayers answered as I expect---I expect God's blessing---in the manner that I have determined is right.  SO----in return for my being part of Christ's Holy Body here on this earth---I expect reward and gain---GASP--I have prostituted the Body!  EYE OPENING!

Time for me to turn from my life of prostitution---time to serve as the body--with no expectations for personal gain--instead to only strive for His good purpose--my role in the body---to give Him praise and glory---with no thought of what I want or expect---and with my eyes upon Him--fulfilling His great commission.  TRUSTING that He will provide all I need and my life will be a reflection of His intent and great love--Serving without expectation--but with complete trust--putting aside my life of prostitution.

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship."
Romans 12:1

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
