JEALOUS LOVER

The jealous lover always makes for a good story.  The lover Mr. Webster describes as-

suspicious or fearful of being displaced by a rival

We've all heard the stories or perhaps even experienced jealousy for a variety of reasons--some real and others imagined.

--

Jealousy comes in many forms---it may boil down to a basic distrust of one we care deeply for.  Perhaps this distrust comes because we doubt our own trustfulness.  Perhaps we doubt our worthiness.  Maybe it comes from knowing we live in a fallen world.  Who in their right mind wants to live in a relationship filled with jealousy because of a lack of trust?

It popped in my head when I woke this morning that God is a jealous God.  He desires us to love Him above all else.  We are clearly told in The Word, we are to have no other gods before Him.  This includes our relationships -even those with our spouses and our families.  I am NOT telling you that we should not love our spouses and family.  I am telling you I was reminded this very day that God wants to be first in my life.  He wants to be my One and only--top of the list--true Love--My Beloved.

When I love Him the Most---all the other relationships will mirror my relationship with Him.  He is jealous for my attentions and thoughts, because He knows that is what is best for me.  NO ONE will EVER love me better!  HE IS LOVE!  When I finally learn to have Him as the center of my universe, all the planets and stars will align and the world will be a better place.   AND-

I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine

  1. Why is it that sometimes my mind wonders when I am trying my best to concentrate and think of something serious to say. Like in this post, for instance. My mind wondered to that woman in the photo with her leg up. Why are women often portrayed with their leg up when hugging or kissing the one they love? If I were to lift my leg when I kissed a woman I'd probably fall off and bring her down with me. As for the St Augustine quote- it's nonsense I believe. You don't have to be in love to be jealous. I can be jealous of my neighbour's ass, (or car), but don't have to love him.

Now for your point about God. I believe it says in the Bible I am a jealous God, (Exodus34:14). This is meant to say do not make yourselves any idols which you will worship. I am the only living God. I don't think it means we should love Him above all else and to the exclusion of wife, children, family or chocolate. I don't think God is jealous in that sense. He knows that for human relationships to succeed, (and many fail), we should have love between one another- husband and wife, father/mother and children, and so on. The treason relationships fail, and why the world is in such a bad state right now, is because there is not enough love amongst each other. Not because there is not enough love towards God. Many people claim to love God above all else, yet have no love for one's neighbours.

You really set me thinking sometimes with your posts, Lulu. Just as well I don't do it with one leg up!

    God bless you.

  2. Before I even got pass the first sentence, I said, "You want to know who is a jealous lover? GOD is!" How right this post is...oh, and giggling over Victor.

    Keep it coming, Lulu, smiles.

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
