ARE YOU BROKEN?

 If you have not sent in a second or third word, you should know you are getting behind.  This is the second word sent by a neighbor and it has lead to plenty of thought.

There are plenty of things which come to mind with this word.  

Broken record, broken heart,  broken back, broken bone, broken egg  (you all know Humpty Dumpty)... 

What do all of these have in common?

We can see from the definitions a common thread

   (of a person) having given up all hope; despairing

In some form or fashion all of these things has been damaged or fractured.  Even when we speak of a person being broken we are denoting a trauma or condition  which has created a change or psychological or physical damage in that person.  Often I speak of us living in a broken world.  Heartbroken is defined as overcome by sorrow.  If you have not been heartbroken over something or some one in your life, you must live in a cave.  Heartbreak will appear eventually, if you dare to love someone with your entire heart.  

I am a BIG fan of Gorilla Super Glue.  Whatever is broken is sure to be super glued if I am around.  This super glue stuff will fix the break better than the original bond.  NO way will it break again at the spot super glued.  It might break next to the place it is glued, but the bond built by that super glue will not break.

I have always heard broken bones are stronger than ever at the break spot once they mend.  My father broke his arm 3 times in the same area at different times.  The break was never in the same spot---slightly closer to the wrist each time.  The thickened bone grown by his body to mend the break made the bone stronger than the original.

Broken relationships can result in

These breaks are not as easily fixed.  There is no magic elixir to put this break back together.  Broken hearts caused by broken relationships are all part and parcel of living in a broken world.  When man became broken by his sin, the world became broken by the fact that sinful man lived in it.  Our propensity to sin has the consequence of leaving us in despair over our brokenness.  

Here's the good thing--the hope--the glue to put us back together.  "Broken is not the end of things, but the beginning."  God created this world in perfection.  His creation, man,  just could not stand perfection and ended up breaking it.  From then on we were left to live in a broken world.  Thankfully our God is also a faithful provider.  He provided the glue which will put this broken world back together--BETTER than ever.  Jesus is better than the best gorilla glue or super glue ever made.  He is the elixir which will restore us to our original perfection.  We will once again be whole, living in a perfect world, in the presence of Jesus.  What a glorious God we serve.
