This tiny little book has me doing some real soul searching. The subject of the book is using our talents to produce fruit. Somehow (what could be behind that) I have gone from being pruned to produce more fruit, to how much is God on my mind?
Did you know I was raised Methodist and for half my adult life attended the Methodist Church? When you become a member of the Methodist Church, the first step is your profession of faith in God Almighty and Jesus Christ. Before the rite is finished, you are also asked if you will tithe your time, talents, and treasure to the United Methodist Church. We are NOT going in to a long debate on tithing today! As all this rolled around in my head, I began to focus on how much of my thinking time was dedicated to God and all He entails.
If I were to tithe my thinking to God, what percentage of my thinking time would I find is taken up with thoughts of God and His Kingdom?
Would you agree that what we spend time thinking about is obviously what is important or dear to us?
I woke up this morning realizing I do not always incorporate God into my thoughts. If our thoughts are an indication of who we are, what do your thoughts say about you? I was convicted God does not want us to tithe our thinking, but to be wholly consumed with Him when thinking.
More excellent food for thought, Lulu. God doesn't want a tithe of our thoughts, He wants the whole of us. Not as easy to do as our human nature tends to shout, "Me, me, me!"

ReplyDeleteSet your hearts on the things that are in Heaven, where Christ sits on His throne at the right-hand side of God. Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth. Colossians 3:1-2.
