QUESTIONS ANSWERING QUESTIONS

 One of  the first questions asked by man in the Bible is

"Am I my brother's keeper?"

Genesis 4:9

Questions--questions answering questions.   God had asked Cain,

"Where is your brother, Abel?"

One of my children's favorite diversionary tactics while being cross examined by mom was answering a direct question with a question.  I call that truth avoidance.  It is a play off of blame shifting which occurs before we even get going good in The Word.

Surely you have been involved in a disagreement when the discussion has taken a swing your way or the truth seems to be on your side.  The verbal opponent then pulls the age old tactic to squirm out of facing the truth by changing the subject.  It took me a LONG time to find the gumption to reply, "Stay on the subject we are discussing."  It is like a lot of things--the first time was the most difficult, but it has gotten easier with time.   I have learned to recognize those diversionary tactics and today immediately call foul when I see it.

Circle the wagons as we head to today's subject.  Am I a reliable truth teller and can I be trusted?  From today's devotional ~ "All loving relationships involve some element of trust.  Faith is trust in God that transforms all your other relationships."

SO our true basis of trust is God.  God is trustworthy. That could be the end of the blog.  Our teacher and example of how to build trust is God--The Triune God.  Faith and trust go hand in hand.  As we learn we can trust another, we begin to build faith in that person.  The path to sanctification could well be named Faith Lane.  As we become more Christlike, others begin to trust us and have faith in we are who we appear to be.  We seek to live the truth and admit  when we have strayed from it.  I have huge admiration for anyone who is willing to humble themselves and admit fault.  It restores my faith in them.  I have been on the humbling end and can tell you it takes great courage.  You are admitting your wrong and risking loss of favor.  BUT GOD---He always forgives.  HE is trustworthy.  Rambling thoughts today--about a deep subject. May we all seek to be trustworthy as we faithfully seek Him.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to Him,

and He will make your paths straight."

Proverbs 3:5-6

  1. Love that verse from Proverbs, Lulu, as it says it all about the foundation and trust we should have in God. Yes, if we trust in Him, all else will fall into place.
    Blessings!

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
