SECOND CHANCES

As I posted last Saturday, I recently reread a book for book club.  The nice thing about having these index cards, for the books I have read in the last couple of years, is I had a record of what I thought the first time through and sometimes am pleasantly surprised to find I liked it better the second time around.

This does not always happen, and who knows what factors created my not as favorable rating the first time.  I do know I read it in December---stressful time of the year, I was having additional stress in a couple of relationships, and perhaps my biorhythms were at a low (another post for another day).  Whatever the reason, when giving the book a second chance, I was pleasantly surprised.  NOW, this does not happen often, but it did ALSO lead to today's blog.

I can be accused of not being always generous in giving second chances.  I can be quoted more than once of repeating ~

I have been to the trough of multiple chances before and many times it does not end well.  NOW--I have also been pleasantly surprised when giving second-third-and more chances.  I am also extremely thankful others have given me more than one chance.  I can have a bad day, have an attack of introvert, be in unfamiliar territory ---.  Thank you to all who have come and read my blogs when the day before I seem to have fallen asleep at the keyboard.  It is a gracious gift when someone gives us that second chance.  There is potential reward on both ends of that equation.  Hopefully the next time I am given the opportunity to extend a second chance I will remember this~

We serve a God Who is renowned for second chances.  Why some days I feel like He gives me another chance each and every day I begin again.  He does not keep count, He does not have a record, He has faith in me, and I never intend to fail Him.

We only have to search The Word to see all those God has given another chance --Jonah and Samson and David and Peter immediately come to mind.  "Second chances reveal a God who is sanctifying us and conforming us into the image of Christ."  What a generous God we serve--our God of second chances.

"Who is a God like you,

pardoning iniquity

and passing over transgression

for the remnant of His inheritance?

He does not retain His anger forever,

because He delights in steadfast love.

He will again have compassion on us;

He will tread our iniquities underfoot.

You will cast all our sins

into the depths of the sea."

Micah 7:18-19

  1. I've needed my fair share of second/third/fourth chances, Lulu, that's for sure! So grateful to our gracious God who forgives so lovingly. May I be quicker to offer those extra chances to others.
    Blessings!

Your comments keep my writing and often cause me to think. A written form of a hug or a pat on the back and an occasional slap into reality---I treasure them all!
